Bad Reputation

Cais do Sodré is an old neighbourhood in Lisbon next to the Tagus River.
Guess what attracts foreign sailors to these streets, especially at night...

So now it's red flags instead of red light?

Aha, so it is that part of town. I wonder how the neighbours feel about that, but maybe they have gotten used to it over the years.

LOL! Very funny! Actually, I have no idea what the red flag means.

i'm guessing it is not the lacy ironwork.

Some interesting local lore or should I say "local lure?! " Regardless...I love the blue building and think you framed it well.

Every city seems to have THAT part of town. The composition is great, but love all the colors.

Ah, yes! One of "those"!! I rather like the idea of a "red flag" for a beacon. Much lovelier than most of "those" in other cities! What a delightful, colorful capture for the day, JM, as well as a smile to start my day! Thanks!!

Really?

The architecture is lovely though.

I can imagine what they like on the streets. But what I like is the mix of color. Very attractive.

Gostei da fachada destes prédios antigos. Já entendi que não é um lugar para se ir, só para ver em foto. Ok

it is beautiful by day.

BUT Lovely BLUE house/hotel !!:)

Lovely composition! The balconies and other ironwork is pretty, regardless of the neighborhood reputation. . .I wonder if the red flag doubles as a light beacon during the daytime .

Very picturesque for that type of area!

A wonderful image... it's a part of the city shared all over the planet.
Take care my friend.

Not just sailors, It might be a popular place with the Secret Service in advance of the next visit by a U.S. President.

@Dave: Yes, as in Cartagena! LOL!

I think I'd keep my distance at any time of the day or night! Yikes! Your photo certainly portrays the danger lurking there!

Thanks for the link to Cartier. I'm going to look at it soon, but we've got family visiting and other stuff and I'm gonna be really busy 'til after Tuesday!

Looks like business is slow in the daytime. I love that shade of blue.

Great blue building ! May be shoot the place at night ;)

... et pourtant la maison bleue semble "alléger" l'atmosphère de bas-fonds !

The colours are so lovely. That yellow which always captures my attention and put it with the blue and i makes for a very special image.

The buildings look too beautiful to be the "bad" part of town.
