Baptismal Font

The Lisbon Cathedral dates back to 1150. However, some transformations took place over the centuries. Although it has been damaged, the building survived the Great Earthquake in 1755 and new elements were added during the restoration.

Love the perspective you took here - great framing! Can't believe you have buildings from the 12th century to photograph and I think 100 year old buildings are old here!

Those pillars look lovely.

It's very powerful. I didn't expect the strong vertical lines for a baptismal font. It's almost like bars on a prison.

A fantastic composition.

These architectural elements form quite a contrast to the lighting of the company offices that you showed the other day. What a difference a few centuries can make.

As always, I'm amazed at the photos you get of places this old! As Cathy wrote, here in the states, too, we're doing good to see any buildings built two hundred years ago! The tile work is gorgeous and your composition is superb as always, JM! Have a great week!

Amazing that this building survived the earthquake, given its years! Great shot, Jose!

The baptismal prison! :-) Can you imagine the lives of all those baptized down through the years at this font? Wonderful composition, JM. Love those tiles in the background, too.

The blue and white tile work absolutely makes this a wonderful image JM. I'm so in awe of the age of some European cathedrals.

It's pretty incredible that Lisbon Cathedral had survived numerous earthquakes. What I like most about this cathedral is the main facade, which actually looks like a fortress. It must have once been used as a forward base to attack the enemy during a siege.
