The Cute Meerkats

Lisbon Zoo

The Meerkat aka Suricate has amazing instincts. Even in captivity, grown up members of the group take turns playing the sentinel (top), always looking around for predators (also up for raptors), hence the small man-made 'hill' on their playground.

I checked Wiki to get more information on these animals. They may be "cute" but I don't think I'd want one for a pet.

Omigod! That first shot is priceless. It looks so curious. Could you say that curiosity killed the Meerkat?

Oh how I love this post! I just adore meerkats. They are the cutest little creatures. I remember watching a National Geographic documentary about them many years ago and just loved their determination and patience. They are so much fun to watch.

No they are not really pet animals. We are lucky to have a colony here in Leeds but they are not like cats or rabbits.

It really is fun to watch them go about their business, I don't know if you saw the series 'Meerkat Manor' it was so interesting to watch. Love the angle on the last image JM. Thanks again for the info on ROA, I'll have to go on the prowl for the others.

They are pretty fascinating, JM. With my luck, I would be the one assigned guard duty.

I worked briefly at a place that had many wild animals - meerkats were among my favorites. Nice shots!
