Church Of Saint Domingos

The construction of the original building started back in 1241. In 1755, the church, as the whole downtown Lisbon, collapsed after the Great Earthquake which was followed by a tsunami and a great fire. It was reconstructed years later and, in 1959, the interior and roof were destroyed by a fire. Restoration works took years to be completed. However, all the stonework has been left ruined and I think it looks fantastic like that.

Something Weird Happened Here

An awful hailstorm hit the Lisbon area early this morning. The noise was incredible and scary! Hours later, I can still find ice balls among my tropical plants.

Below is a web image of one of the most affected areas. Crazy - this is Lisbon!

Monte Estoril

Although it's nothing compared to January 6, the ocean is still wild. We've had yellow and orange alerts on the coast every day since then.

Almost Back To Normal

... but some weather specialists say we might have a new "Black Swell" within a week or so. I hope they're wrong.
Here's a photo gallery of the waves along the Portuguese coast on Jan 6.

A Quiet Winter Beach Scene

Such a contrast to what happened all along our coast yesterday. Waves were as high as up to 14 meters in some places where they washed cars and everything else away like little tsunamis, buildings were destroyed and there is a lot of damage everywhere.
Take a look at this video shot in a city up north.

Carcavelos Beach

This shot was NOT taken today. Today the weather is awful, there are giant waves, floods everywhere, very strong winds, it's snowing up north and this is what we might expect over the next few days: Atlantic Code Red Incoming
