"Frida Kahlo: Her Photos"

First international exhibition of 257 photographs at the City Museum, Lisbon

"When Kahlo died, husband Rivera asked the poet Carlos Pellicer to turn her home, Casa Azul(*), into a museum that the people of Mexico could visit to admire the work of the artist. Pellicer went through Kahlo’s belongings and selected key paintings, drawings, photographs, books, and ceramics, to display in the museum. The remaining objects, clothing, documents, drawings, letters… and over 6,000 photographs… were boxed up and put into storage. This remarkable collection remained hidden for more than half a century."

"INSIDE OUT is a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. Everyone is challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world. These digitally uploaded images will be made into posters and sent back to the project’s co-creators for them to exhibit in their own communities. People can participate as an individual or in a group; posters can be placed anywhere, from a solitary image in an office window to a wall of portraits on an abandoned building or a full stadium."

In such a currently depressed country as Portugal, 'Positive Thinking' is the statement. 138 people were photographed. The motto is: laughing.

The church was ruined by the Great Earthquake (1755) and the fire that followed it (75 bodies were found in the rubble... 18 months later!). The reconstruction, according to the original design, started in 1772.

Maybe because I spent all the time talking about travelling with the anesthesiologist, maybe because I thought the whole operation went pretty fast, maybe because I was sent home the day after surgery, I haven't realized how unconfortable and painful the post-operative period would be, but the fact is I have two Frankenstein-like sewed up cuts of about 10 cm each in my belly. :-)

Biggest wave of all time in Nazaré (100 km north of Oeiras)

"Garrett McNamara has surfed what is considered to be the biggest wave ever. The Hawaiian big wave rider caught the huge monster in Praia do Norte, Nazaré, Portugal, during the ZON North Canyon Project 2011.

The wave is estimated to be about 90 feet (30 meters)."

Some close friends of mine came up with this very cool 'Positive Thinking' idea for the INSIDE OUT Project. One hundred and thirty nine big portraits of different people laughing will make a gigantic panel in Lisbon and I'm kind of giving a hand with the making of, but I can't show you anything yet so here is a photo of the empty studio the minute we got there.
