My imagination runs wild ... there was a time when this place was grandiose and elegant and reeking of luxurious living. Do you think it will ever be restored to its previous glory?
@Lowell: I wish I could think so. Actually, Portugal is still 'operating' thanks to a bailout. If this (and other places) was previously left to such state of abandon, it will not be now that it's going to be taken care of! Not in the many next years for sure.
You have many photos of decay on your blog, but this one is really special. It clearly shows the past glory of this place and the sadness of its neglect and ruin.
It's a beautiful space JM, how nice if it was tidied up a bit, it could be used for many things! btw it was thanks to you for sending me the info that I was able to do my post today!!
It pains me to see such elegance left to decay. If this place is publicly owned, I don't imagine, with the current state of the Portuguese economy, it will be renovated anytime soon. Pity.

@Birdman: It's a kind of pavilion at an old property owned(*) by the Count of Burnay, where the Lisbon Zoo moved to in 1905.
(*)Not sure if he still owns it now.
P.S. Actually the Count is more than dead now! LOL! I mean, if his family still owns it. :-)

What an amazing place, when you know how to look at it. A photographer's eye helps.
This one feels a little sad but perhaps it is just the season, with the vines in leaf it could be quite delightful.
