What a fun looking festival! And so colorful! I would love to be to be there in person, but your photos are the next best thing, JM! Fantastic costumes! Thanks for sharing the festival with us!!
At a second look at the costumes, I noticed the braids holding up the white socks. In my childhood I used to weave similar braids in intricate patterns for the same traditional purpose.

All beautifully vibrant images Jm, but the first image is exquisite, the hair, the kimono and of course the young lady, too beautiful.
@PerthDP: It's a traditional shawl she's wearing.
Now, what are the stories behind the masks?
@Birdman: I wish I knew... Sorry! :-) These are really old traditions, some from small villages in Portugal but mostly from Spain.
The first one is gorgeous. Makes me want to listen to Flamenco.
I like the novel way to use Christmas tinsel! :-)
This looks to be filled with tradition. . .and lots of color! Wonderful series!
@Ciel: Yes! I bet those 'crowns' were not made of Christmas tinsel in the old days! :-)))
Fantasy, creativity and colors, what is better than this for photography?
Lovely to see...
Everything is so colorful. We don't have anything like it.
These are great. I love the shawl in the first photo.
That looks like a lot of fun. And that woman's shawl in the first photo is an exquisite work of art.
Ohhh... this was sure a great event, I would like to have been there! Great photos!
The top shot is particularly lovely
Fun series of the mask festival, JM. The three boys are adorable how they posed for you. I can almost hear the bells on the belts.
It is so good to see traditions kept up. They are, after all, the spirit of the people.
Beautiful photos.

We need more festivals like this one where I live. Very colorful.
A festival that seems based on an age-old tradition. Striking images.
