Let me play the devil's advocate here: if he is unemployed how can he afford to buy food for his dog? Or the dog is only an useful tool for a professional beggar?
A sad sign indeed and we are seeing more and more of them here in Seattle. Not only that, but the murders/shootings have more than doubled any numbers in the past! Sad times they are! Take care, have a good week, JM!
Yes, it is a sign of these times, but it is the sign of all times. The poor have always been with us.
You made an interesting comment about the American flag on the home I showed a few years ago. International visitors are usually surprised at how frequently the flag is displayed here. It has always been flown, but after September 11, 20011, the frequency increased dramatically.
I do wonder how people are getting on. I remember the stories my Mum used to tell of the depression and how extra family members had to be taken into their small home because they didn't have work.

I'm glad the dog has some food and water at least.
A sad sight.
so sad :(
Your title is right on. We have lots of these folks, many of which stand on street corners and beg and many of which have dogs with them.
Do you think things are going to improve?

Sad and touching.
I think the dog provides some comfort in sad times. The guy probably makes sure that the pooch has food before worrying about himself.

I agree with Lois, I am happy to see the dog is being fed. Around here you see this alot and the dogs aren't as lucky.
Strong documentary.
Triste realidade...

So sad JM, but how is it that I feel more sorry for the dog? He looks kind of thin.
