Old Stone Cross

I never knew the story behind this cross at Parede but one thing is for sure, someone died on these cliffs long ago.

The Fado(*) Singer

Alfama, the oldest district in Lisbon, a Moorish settlement until the 12th century

(*) A form of music characterized by mournful tunes and lyrics, often about the sea or the life of the poor, and infused with a characteristic sentiment of resignation, fatefulness and melancholia (loosely captured by the word "saudade", or longing).
On November 27, 2011, Fado was inscribed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists

Industrial Setting

LXFactory, Lisbon

A former threads and fabrics company dating back to 1846, that was kept hidden for years, is now a creative island, being the stage for a diverse set of happenings related to fashion, publicity, communication, fine arts, architecture, music, etc.
Background: 25th of April Bridge (1966) over the Tagus estuary. The red structure is the railroad to the south bank.

What's The Message?

Fortress of São João das Maias (1644) at Santo Amaro Beach, Oeiras

I don't remember seeing this signature before (skull inside a heart), but I've already found some tv head dogs and pigs on walls around here.

Stone Stairs

The Alfama district sits on one of Lisbon's seven hills. Although very damaged, many buildings there have survived the Great Earthquake in 1755 and, due to the high location, they weren't hit by the tsunami that followed the earthquake, which destroyed the whole downtown. I'm not sure about this building, but these stairs full of scars do indeed look very old.

±MAISMENOS±

LXFactory, Lisbon

±MAISMENOS± (plus minus) is an intervention project that has been reflecting on the model of political, social and economic organisation that manages life in current societies. It questions, above all, the social implications and consequences resulting from it, displaying its programmatic expression reduced to an equation of simplicity and opposites: more/less, positive/negative, black/white.

(Keep in mind Portugal is one of the Eurozone countries which already had the need of a bailout)

Darfur Sartorialist

"Darfur is fashionable.
Beyond the conflict and images engraved in our minds lies a proud people wearing colour combinations unlikely in the trendy West."

Pedro Matos is a humanitarian aid worker living in Darfur for the past three years. His photos are on display at the cool "Ler Devagar" (Read Slowly) bookstore at LXFactory(*), Lisbon

(*)It’s in the year 1846 that a threads and fabrics Company called “Companhia de Fiação e Tecidos Lisbonense”, one of the most important manufacturing complex in Lisbon’s history, sets in Alcântara. This 23.000 m2 industrial site was, subsequently, occupied by a set of industrial use related companies.
An urban fragment, kept hidden for years, is now returned to the city in the form of LXFactory. A creative island occupied by corporations and professionals of the industry serves also has stage for a diverse set of happenings related to fashion, publicity, communication, fine arts, architecture, music, etc., attracting numerous visitors to rediscover Alcântara through an engaged dynamics.
