An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale shook Portugal for 8 seconds at 1.37am. It was quite scary! Fortunately the epicenter was located in the Atlantic Ocean 100kms off the coast.

Santa Justa Elevator (II)

This is the opposite side of the structure shown on the pic I posted yesterday.

The small 'Céu de Lisboa (Lisbon Sky) Café' on top has the best view, but it's closed for winter...

São Jorge Castle stands in the background; it was conquered to the Moorish by King Afonso I in 1147.

Santa Justa Elevator

This 45 meters high structure was built in 1902 by the Portugal-born French architect Raoul de Mesnier du Ponsard (an apprentice of Gustave Eiffel) to connect the lowest and highest points of downtown Lisbon (a pedestrian bridge links the top to the hill in the background).

Rossio is the popular name of the King Pedro IV Square, a meeting point at Lisbon downtown. Queen Maria II National Theater stands in the background.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

The Beatles at the entrance of  MUDE, the Design and Fashion Museum, currently housing the It's Forbidden to Forbid exhibition, the coolest and craziest exhibit in Lisbon at the moment - an amazing display of 60s and 70s international items very much under a 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' atmosphere (shame photos are not allowed inside). The Augusta Street Arch stands in the background.
