Stone wall

One more kilometer has been added to the sea promenade, connecting Oeiras to Paço de Arcos. These are some details of the wall opposite to the sea.

cela fait penser a des murs de pierres pétrifiées. cela fait très ancien, mais la présentation (photo 3) fait très moderne

This is reminiscent of a petrified stone walls. this is very old, but the presentation (photo 3) is very modern

Walls can be very cool, this is a good example! I like the angles to make us appreciate the textures.

I love these types of photos. Your take on them is truly excellent. So interesting and eye-catching. Thanks for your comments about the Frank Lloyd Wright Series. I was hoping it would be of interest to people. I have a few more days and then I will move on to different Chihuly, cactus and desert photos. I was in Morocco for the past two weeks so I wanted to make sure there was a series of something that would be informative and different for people to enjoy while I was away. Morocco was very interesting and, surprisingly, very French. A very different experience than Egypt or Jordan. It was a quite enjoyable trip. I will spend the next week catching up on everyone's websites and enjoying their photos. Thanks for your comments on my site. I have read them all.

Those stones made interesting pattern!

That is so intriguing. You mean the wall is done differently throughout its length? I think I like the idea.

Love the second photo with the tiny rocks in that small space with the big ones!

JM,
Loved the stone wall photos today.

Julie neglected to mention in her comment above that while we were in Morocco during the past couple of weeks we visited the ruins of the Roman city of Volubilis, a UNESCO world heritage site. They said that the buildings remained standing from Roman times until the great Lisbon earthquake of 1755.

We were familiar with the 1755 earthquake from our visit to Portugal years ago, but it was obviously a massive earthquake of it could knock down large stone structures in central Morocco that had stood for nearly 2,000 years from an epicenter in Portugal.

I have a thing for stone walls! Marvelous shots, JM. I especially like the one with the little stones stacked along with the large blocks. Beautiful.

I have a thing for stone construction...these look like stacked stones...

How fortunate you are to have such a wall along the sea!

Lots of character - instead of just a line of concrete.

This is beautiful! I love rocks and geology. If I lived in Oeiras I would spend a lot of time at this wall. I love how they have used different rocks and textures to build it.
I wish more places would be this inventive in how they created structures.

A great idea to make this wall as an art work and people will treat it better than just a blank wall. Nice details, JM.

The big white things at the top looked like tongues sticking out! HA I enlarged and see that it's stones. This is amazing work here. I love this wall to JM. You took some nice shots!

A bit of stonewalling can be just what the doctor ordered. That second shot really triggers my imagination.

I have often wondered how they get the stone these type of walls so flat ... after all it's not like a hedge that you can run clippers over to smooth it off. I particularly like the second shot ... very artistic work by the wall builder.
