Forte da Cruz

This Neo Medieval style construction (1895) is now the residence of the Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta. Check these photos I've posted one year ago to see the whole building and its location.

Wow - those are some amazing digs! Who is the "Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta" and what does he do? Fancy residence for a person with a fancy title!

Incredible, what a residence! Just reading Foucault's Pendulum (Umberto Eco) and am in the middle of the stories of the Knights Templar.

I think those "digs" are worthy of royalty!

I remember well this castle, just on the beach. Your images of it are great and I never knew about the destination of this magnificent residence.

A very substantial residence. It looks like the setting for a grand novel or an epic movie.

I'm sorry, I read about the Malta order and started to giggle. It all seems an oxymoronic pretense of power and nobody cares. Heck, most people have never heard of them.

The castle is lovely, though. I did look through the other photos, too. Right on the beach! Why does the grand poohbah need such a grand palace? Sell it and give the money to the poor.

Hmmm...someone said that before me, I think.

For some reason this photo reminds me of the fake European buildings that they construct in America, perhaps everything is just too precise ... doesn't make it any less grand or interesting.

I remember being wowed by the building when you first posted it. It's easy to imagine it as a fortress. Magnificent!

Not all ambassadors have such a grand place to live in!
