Amália

Amália Rodrigues (1920-1989), singer and actress, was the maximum exponent of Portugal's popular music, the Fado, and so, the greatest international portuguese celebrity and the most admired and loved star in the country. She also sang poems turned music of several portuguese poets and, in fact, Variety's magazine chose her in 1959 as one of the four best female singers in history.
On the 10th anniversary of her death, the 'Amália Exhibit' takes place at the CCB (Belém Cultural Center).

I don't remember much her as actress, my fault, but who can forget her voice!

Sad to say, I have not heard of this fine actress and singer. She had a powerful presence and voice as portrayed in the video. Many thanks, JM!

Passionate soul..a neat bit of nostalgia I imagine, though I was unfamiliar. I think it kind of spiced things up nicely! Thanks-

That top photo is gripping. It pulls me in and won't let go. I've heard a little fado but not much. I'd like to know more.

Wonderful to be able to see her and hear her. She exudes passion and beauty. I hear Fado regularly on a classical afternoon radio station that I am devoted to and find it mesmerising, Jose. Amalia was only 69 when she died: so young. Such a loss.

When she closes her eyes, I see it even more attractively.
