Choir stalls

The construction of the Jeronimus Monastery started in the very early 16th century but this wooden work has been added on the upper choir in 1551.

What lovely old dark wood! The paintings are beautiful too.

I can feel the quietness of the place just by looking at the pictures. The radiant light from the round window adds a heavenly glow to the room. It must be entrancing to be in that peaceful place.

A place to be for singers near and far. And the occasional photographer.

Peaceful and beautiful.

A dark room at first and an explosion of light then. Great contrast, I like any post about the Jerónimos.

Great photos - you can see/ feel the oldness of the place!! I was there when much, much younger and don't recall much. And of course now I have the excuse to take loads of photos!!!! Tenho de voltar la para a proxima vez em Portugal!!! Gena

They are beautiful JM, and the place looks so calm!
By the way, I don't know why it's impossible to enlarge some of my photos - I'm helpless with computer!!!!

They seem quite dark and sombre to me ... but the light gives them a nice lift.

Wow - heavenly look inside the monastery! I wonder how a choir would sound in there! By the way, the house on my blog on Monday is kinda small and needs a lot of work I think - thus the lower price.
Happy New Year, Jose'!
