I think is right to post things like this once and then. A pity for the building which is nice and interesting. Is Paço de Arcos that place from where the king saw the caravels of Vasco da Gama leaving?
VP, I'm ashamed to confess that I have no idea where King Manuel I was at the time of the departure... Ignorant me! The Vasco da Gama caravels left from Belém (western Lisbon, where the Monument to the Discoveries stands, in front of the Jeronimus Monastery) and Paço de Arcos (next to Oeiras) also has a great view over the mouth of the Tagus River, so it is possible, but I will try to find this out and let you know.
There is a certain depth of beauty that transcends brokenness (or decay) as in this case... although it needs renovation, it is still a very special building.
Next moment an old lady will go out on the balcony, old servant will bring two armchairs, cup of coffee and start reading loud the memoirs to her mistress, and the time will stop.
So sad to see these beauties falling apart, but somehow they still maintain a regal and proud stature!!! have a great day! Gena @ thinking aloud a photoblog South Africa
This is my kind of shot .. I love the earthy colours but also the tiles are the same tone so the building looks almost etched. I wouldn't fix up anything on it ... it's just perfect the way it is.

I hate to see any historical building fall to ruin, but I also love to savor an old patina!
There comes a time when we can't help but show our age, but it looks like the building is still occupied.

nice building ,decay adds to texture but i hope they will renovate the house :)
It's a beautiful old building. I hope it gets restored someday.

The worm of rot waits for no man! Nor is it particular about where it does its work!
Am I right to assume this is a single-family dwelling? If so, they may not have the funds to do the restoration needed.
It does look like a building with a past and one that could have a beautiful future, if...
If I were a Realtor, I'd say, "it has so much potential."

Crying shame - it's absolutely beautiful and should be restored. Love the wonderful pattern.
