Casa das Histórias

Paula Rego's 'House of Stories', a new museum at Cascais (2009) designed by Eduardo Souto Moura.

She's the most famous living portuguese female painter, shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1989 and awarded the Degree of Doctor of Letters honoris causa by the Oxford University in 2005.

Architecture like this shouts out to stop, take a look and come inside. Perfect for a museum.

How is the light in this Museum,I wonder?..
Does the pyramid top allows the day light.

Very unusual building and artwork. The shape of the place does seem to draw you inside.

Marie-Noyale,
Altough you don't see a single window from the outside, there is a lot of daylight inside, but I don't remember if the pyramid tops are made of glass or not... You can check it here (official site): http://www.casadashistoriaspaularego.com/index_en.html#/edificio/galeria/interior/

P.S. Yes, there is daylight coming from the top of the pyramids! I've just checked... :-)))

Excellent shots of a very unique and interesting building. She evidences a very creative mind. I can imagine it is quite unusual and beautiful inside, also.

Interesting architecture and excellent photos. It is hard to tell from the picture but the angle of the pyramids doesn't seam to be the right one for the pyramid effect.
I've checked the link for the interior but I am sure it is more interesting to see it live.
I agree with you, the artist's works from your previous post are sinister.

Very interesting work by Paula Rego. I'm grateful to be introduced to her - thank you.

I will definitely visit this museum the next time I am in Portugal and I'm able to get out of my mother's village! My last few visits have been for the purpose of spending time with her, which fine as she is a wonderful lady and loving mentor.

Interesting architecture. Wonder what the influences were, the pyramids?

Love that building!
We seem to be seeing more and more pyramids in modern architecture, in Israel too.

It's a neat looking building, and it shows nicely in the setting (2nd photo). I always admire an artist who can draw well, and she is certainly one.

Very primitive looking.

Not sure I like that pinkish color though!
