Contrast (II)

Historic district of Belém (western Lisbon)
Some of the buildings in the background have survived the earthquake that destroyed the city in 1755. Have a closer look here.

This picture has everything to make me happy.

So glad those charming houses withstood the earthquake.

The buildings might be historic but the monument looks very 1960s.

The old and the new. that is a contrast and I like the old and am glad they survived for so long. MB

Lots of contrast here. I love the sculpture and the survivor buildings. The park area is especially appealing.

I remember these buildings! Hard to believe they're still standing. What a beautiful park-like setting, too. From a distance they remind me a little of Paris.

It is a contrast but I think it all goes well together. And what does that sculpture mean?

At first I thought it was loudspeakers, but then it turned out to be a modern sculpture.

Love those old buildings.
