The Castle Hill

The Lisbon Castle, also know as São Jorge Castle, was conquered to the Moorish by the first portuguese king, Afonso Henriques, in 1147.
Although the downtown was totally destroyed by the earthquake in 1755, the castle survived without much damage.

I see a gate to this castle nearly every day. We bought a painting of one of the castle gates from an artist at the castle during a visit in December 2001. The painting hangs in our dining room.

Now that's a castle. What a wonderful site on the top of that hill.

Isn't that the strange things about earthquakes--how they destroy some things and not others--pick and choose I suppose.
The castle is marvelous as is the picturesque town below. MB

That's right. They built stone to last in those days! ;-) Love the general view.

An interesting image, every part of it. In particular it conveys a sense of depth and distance. Well done.

The view must be great where you stand, otherwise I don't understand why these buildings are packed so densely, layer upon layer too...

As they say in Bangkok, sabai, sabai. There is a real concern that the government and many Bangkokkians intend to forgive and forget. I shudder to think what will come next, when the farmers are done with their planting/harvesting, and the reds mount another attack...
