I have read many of his books but I still remember the pages about the huge stone of Mafra in the 'The History of the Siege of Lisbon'. I went to Mafra on purpose! I didn't share his ideology, lately bordering on antisemitism, but he was one of the few great writers of the last years and one of my favorites.
I do not know Senor Saramago, but I'll take your word for his influence on Portuguese literature. Must have been quite the writer to be a Nobel laureate. VP's comment about anti-Semitism made me curious...that would certainly diminish his standing in my eyes. I'll have to learn more about this man.
Maravilloso recuerdo y homenaje en tu blog. Una gran pérdida. Today, one of the best writers from Mexico died too; Carlos Monsiváis. Literature is mourning. Un abrazo,

He was a beautiful man. So sorry to hear of his passing.
It is always sad when great minds leave us.
You're right - I would say that European Literature is poorer now!

Bela montagem!
It's sad when a great one leaves. Fortunately, it seems he left much beauty behind. I did not know his work.

Yes, I learnt about it! I'm glad the Nobel committee thought about him in time.
(To answer your question the other day; yes, we booked Sesimbra.)
