São João das Maias Fortress

Sea Promenade at Santo Amaro, Oeiras
This small fortress was built in 1644 and has recently been restored.
The bottom shot (restoration works) shows the state of decay the Ministry of Defence has let the building get to.

What a lot of work has gone into this restoration and what excellent results were achieved.

The restoration is beautiful. A lovely building and so beautiful and it looks like it was restored just in time. MB

I wonder if they know whether the color of the restoration is the color of the original fort in the old days. Perhaps there are historical records or paintings that they used to pick such a color.

Olá
Sou eu novamente!

What a fantastic restoration! The building reminds me of the adobe architecture of the Southwest, particularly Santa Fe!

I don't know if I've seen a more pretty fortress than that! Do you know if that's the original color?

Gosh, that's pretty far gone. Makes the lovely restoration even more fantastic.

A bold choice of color, excellent with the bluea sky and the sea. Seen the state of decay, they did a great work.
