The old Quinta do Barão (Baron's Farm) was famous for its wine. It has been cut by roads and roundabouts in the last decades and no longer works. There is a project to transform the manor and other buildings, gardens and the remaining terrains next to these into a luxury resort, including a Wine Museum in the cellars.
However it was supposed to open doors in 2009 and nothing happened...

Looks like another victim of the recession.
What a beautiful place! I love those fancy gates and the shadows they make. Thank you so much for sharing. Hope it comes back one day.
Such a beautiful place to fall into disrepair. It would make a wonderful museum. MB
This is one of those photos you can look at a long time and let your imagination go wild. I never knew Quinta meant "farm." We have a large motel chain here called La Quinta. Must mean "The Farm," right?
I'd guess the economy got in the way of the restoration. Too bad.
Hi JM! Thanks much for the info on the white and black rhinos. I didn't know that. Very interesting. I guess it's good to pay close attention to linguistic nuances sometimes.
I love the shadows
I like the way the shadows look in this picture.
A wine museum? Great idea!!!
I like the play of light and shadow in the picture. I hope the preservation gets going, it would be a shame for this to be taken over by a road.
So many projects are being shelved at the moment. I hope they manage to preserve those gates - they're lovely.
It's an old story we hear too often in so many different places. I'd like the idea of a wine museum.
The pattern of the ironwork and its shadow is amazing.
whatever happens here, jm, you have made a fine composition. the play of shadow and light, the delicate curls and aged tile...so many elements work beautifully the way you've framed them.
Love the play of light and shadow. PS. I'm in Santa Fe without a computer, and I'm having photo-withdrawal. Visiting the library is great for books but waiting for a computer to use is a huge pain!
That's a place I would want to get inside of and take more pictures, it looks so interesting!
I'm not sure about anything, but I do know that lots of ranches around here use triple letters for their names so that's why I say the KKK probably means nothing. But, it certainly is not a name I would choose.
Hope they'll open it soon, especially Wine Museum:)
Beautiful photo JM!
Interesting. Though the gates don't look very inviting, they look like they could open up to something quite exciting.
What are your plans for the weekend?
Thanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and leaving your comment. Come visit again tomorrow!
Delightful light and excellent composition.
Love the angle & shadow in your shot...it's wonderful !
