August Dryness

Pine Tree forest at Carcavelos next to the beach

Fires are a major problem every summer. It's been really hot and more than 6,500 fires have occurred in Portugal just in the last three weeks.
61 firemen have died fighting them in the last decade.

malheureusement beaucoup de foret disparaisse à cause des feux , et le pire c'est quand un feu est fait volontairement ;(

A cruel reality but a beautiful image.

I was thinking of fires when I saw the title of your post. I do hope the fires are not too severe.

Strange! But the weather seems to be the same everywhere this summer.

Those are some sobering statistics!

The forest fires and causalities are a big OUCH! Yet your capture of this dry forest is very dramatic with the sun beaming in, JM.

My goodness, that is so sad. I knew it was hot, but did not realize you were burdened by fires also. I'd send you some of our rain if I could!

Re your response on the lion: Every 5 minutes for 2 or 3 days! That would beat Charlie Sheen on the Two and a Half Men TV show. Perhaps you've seen it.

A foto está linda, mas que pena que esses incendios não dão trégua!

I like this scene. It has a sad melancholy to it.

Terrific capture and it does look hot and dry and as Halcyon has written, it does indeed have a sad and melancholy look! I do hope you get some rain soon. Have a great weekend, JM!

The forests will in time recover. The dead men will not. What makes me angry is that (at least in some places) such wildfires are started deliberately. How could anyone do that?

Oh no, this is not good. I hope for rain for you.

You have to struggle with fire, we with flood - difficult summer this year!

Same problem here, but in the last years it seems a bit more safe.

what a sad shot ...

Even the trees are saddened and leaning in silent tribute to the fallen heroes...

You've conveyed the idea that this forest is essentially a pile of kindling. And sometimes Nature strikes the match.

Sad but there is still a beautiful feeling about this photo.

So many fires in one little country!
And so many lives lost fighting them.

I see from around my village that when forests burn, those pine trees go up like a torch.

I wish Portugal to be safe from fires and more firemen's deaths.
Photo is so good. As usual.

Wow that's a lot of fires! We have no where near that amount here, but we are also very dry with fire danger high. I like this photo, I can almost hear the crack of dry brush and wood.
