An Evening at the Park

Monsanto Forest Park is a protected forest in Lisbon, the largest green patch in the city with almost 1000 ha.
The regulation for the park has occurred in 1934 and the works for replantation were carried out by farmers and prisioners from Monsanto Fort.
Days have been very hot again (fires are everywhere), only in the evenings you can enjoy the outdoors. However today is strangely cloudy and cooler too.

A forest in the city, nice! The second picture is so idyllic.
I just pray you have no fire there inside it.

Cities so much need green spaces. The late evening sun catching the trees is lovely.

I was interested in the name of the park. In the USA Monsanto is the name of a a large chemical company. I don't know the origin of their name, but maybe it has something to do with Portugal.

Looks like a wonderful place for a picnic, among other things. And one can sit under the big trees when it's hot and sunny! Every city needs places like this!

I love the golden illumination of the ray of light across the tree trunk.

It is normal for the area in which I live for wild fires to flare up and rage out of control so I understand the discomfort of your environment. I hope they are under some control and citizens and fire fighters are not getting injured. It can be a devastating experience.

It's always a saving grace when a city's layout includes a natural setting. Hopefully you will be spared too many more fire outbreaks and the weather will stay cooler.

that sign has a fantasy quality to it. It makes me think of "Alice in Wonderland" for some reason.

JM your pictures make me want to visit Portugal much more than looking in our UK travel brochures. Cascais and Lisbon look so interesting.

Such a peaceful scene,
the benches taking a well-earned breather
before the next morning's visitors arrive.

One of my daughters is in Lisbon as I write.

Interesting activity to give to prisoners, something really meaningful and beneficial!
God bless you!

I'm glad to know that convict made something useful of their time, as some did here. Your first picture of the park has a beautiful light. I hope your weather will be cooler.

Very nice capture of the light on the tree trunks. «Louis» is curious about the Monsanto name, too.

That slice of light is divine. I'm sorry that you are having fires there. I guess we think that only happens here in the US! You live is such a beautiful place. I hope there is not much damage my friend.

Fires ... shudder.

I join the group curious about Monsanto name. I did not mention the name on my blog today, but the company in the US by that name is a large part of the controversy I mention... they are the largest producers of GMO seeds and are bullies about making farmers use them. Nice park... and your photo is taken at my favorite time of the day.
