Bummer to see such decay! I imagine they were really nice at one time! I hope someone will fix it up!

That certaintly is decay. So sad.
Another blogger in Lisbon (she no longer posts)wrote several interesting articles about Alfama. Very interesting. MB

Based on my short time in Lisbon, my feeling is that the Alfama neighborhood is charming and gives Lisbon part of its character and identity. Let's hope these old buildings can be stabilized and restored to stop the decay.

I don't mind the bricks peeking through, but those broken windows are a bit troubling. Perhaps some restoration is in the future?

I Find this very sad, there are many places like this here in France, but I also see masses of restoration going on. Diane

It is a great pity when old buildings are left to fall apart. It saddens me when I see this happening.

Que belo recanto! É pena o estado de degradação a que deixam chegar estas "coisas"!

You know I am fascinated by this kind of pictures and it is very sad that we can take so many of them...

Your decay shots are wonderful. This one has such beautiful details and color. I agree with VP, although I'd hate to have none to look at.

Such intriguing decay though. Nice framing and perspective.

Urban decay and deserted buildings are distressing but make such great photographic subjects. Great perspective on this one. I'm second the many other commenters' sentiments wishing this site will be restored. The architecture is so unique and filled with the character and patina of history. Beautifully composed JM!

I like this angle in this picture! It's a pity to see a beautiful building and windows in this way!

Yes, there is still some decay around... but - at least for a tourist - that's part of the charm of Alfama!
