Endangered Oceans (II) + The Revenge

"Plastic Ocean"
School of false fish which has been bred for sea fauna fishing. All have been collected on the Portuguese coastline.
Installation by Carole Purnele (Belgium) & Nuno Mayo (Portugal) on the Sea Promenade at Cascais

The Revenge

Restaurant at Santo Amaro Beach, Oeiras

Very strong storms took place last friday and saturday. All beaches have now tons of trash given back by the ocean.
About 3 kms of the Sea Promenade have been damaged - and I mean broken! -, mainly at the Cascais - Estoril area, so the above and previous installations surely have also been washed away.

Oh no! Very dramatic storm and results!
Good luck with the clean-up and repair.

cela donne une bonne idée du respect des gens envers l'océan, beaucoup trop de gens prennent les océans pour d'immenses poubelles ;((

It is amazing what the oceans contain besides fish.

Hopefully this will inspire some more people to use re-usable water bottles instead of plastic bottles.

The art is a fascinating commentary on how we treat the ocean. I'm sorry to hear of the storm damage. The sea is never peaceful forever!

It looks at though the sea has belched up some of the trash that has found its way into the water. I hope the clean up has begun.

Like the artist's message on the first photo. Second photo-- what a mess! A storm brings it all back and forces us to see what we have done to our natural resources. Wonderful post.

Hmm... it's too bad the art will now end up as more litter in the ocean. Maybe this was not the best place for an installment?

Those were some powerful storms! And what a mess! Such a shame, but that's what storms do! Hope they can get the mess cleaned up quickly! Enjoy your evening, JM!

All too easily we forget what power the oceans can unleash on the shores.

It gives new meaning to the phrase, "garbage in, garbage out". That must have been a huge storm.

It's good I think, every now and again, to remember that we can't actually tame nature - though we're doing our best to destroy it in many ways.

A grim reminder!

Washed away? Nature has taste. So, at last, these artists ended up polluting the ocean much more than the average guy...

That is so distressing. I am very sorry for this happening to your lovely coast. I sincerely hope no one was hurt but I can't blame the ocean for being angry!

I am also glad to see your local artists fighting back the trashing of our seas with their powerful fish installations. It is so sad they might be destroyed as well. I just don't understand why we can't keep better care of our oceans!

Oh my! that ocean was very very angry. She vomitted up some of our garbage. Now she says deal with it. MB

Trash given back by the ocean, horrible thought.

Oh dear, Mother Nature had another tantrum. Hope the clean-up crew is ready. Glad you captured the art installation before it was damaged.
