A civil initiative by young adults looking for jobs consistent with their qualifications turned out to be a gathering of 200.000 people of all generations peacefuly protesting on the streets of Lisbon against the politicians who led this country into the current chaotic economic and social situation.

i hope the protest will change something ....
What an amazing crowd! I feel like we should be doing this here too!
It seems we are in the same situation here but we just sit around and whine.
Look at all the cameras there too.
I hopr change happens. MB
I hope the protest would bring all but good things to your Country JM! I had been gone for so long and I thank you for informing me on what's happening there at Portugal!

Wow, so many people and not all of them are young. You got some amazing pictures.
There seems to be unrest, unhappiness and demonstrations around the world right now! I like the bottom photo of all the photographers!
It happens even here, but because too students get fancy but quite useless degrees.

Fantastic photos, JM! You caught the action beautifully!
Good for them. I hope the politicians and their crooked banker friends go to jail for a long time...in this country, too. But it ain't happening; the financial people are just raking in billions more in salary and bonuses.
It is a criminal shame!
Terrific! And I do hope their efforts are rewarded! We are seeing so much of this in so many countries and one can't help but wonder what is it that our "leaders" don't understand??? Fantastic post, JM, and your photos are superb as always! They do capture the mood! Have a great week!

I just commented but don't think it went through, so excuse me if I'm duplicating. These photos are GREAT! I can't figure why there isn't more of this expression going on here, though we are seeing isolated rumblings. This is a global problem and those in power worldwide do not seem to have the public good or the future in mind.
The people of Lisbon are a gentle generation! There was never a violent revolution that history knows of. This looks more like a social gathering than a demonstration, I have to say. You have captured the expression on their faces really well!
Hope they'll manage to change something! I've heard about this protests on radio.
Great post JM!
Great documentary.
I hope the politicians will listen to the people.
Politicians aren't the only ones to blame. I keep wondering if finance corporations and banks will ever face charges in court over their rapacious role in this global mess.
I am with Sharon on this one. The people here need to stop complaining and actually do something. Your photos are amazing.
I wasn't aware that there were demonstrations in Lisbon. Your photos are great. I hope that the demonstrations help, and I also hope they remain peaceful.
Your photos document the event nicely. Let's hope change happens (on your end and mine)!
Great journalistic shots.
eu fui com orgulho, foi uma das maiores e melhor manifestações nunca senti tão perto d mim a força de todo o povo português, só espero é que esta força não se perca agora com o tempo ! bons registos do que foi :)
Such a demonstration is more than uderstandable! However, to demonstrate in good weather with smiles is perhaps more typically Portuguese! :-)
Young people are sure to have some hard times ahead.
Marvelous captures of hope and disappointment. I wonder if anyone really knows what needs to be done to improve the global - and hence local - economy.
It's amazing and encouraging to see 200,000 people gather peacefully for a demonstration that must be as emotionally charged as this cause - that is, peaceful on all sides. Nice photos.
What a great turn out and so orderly too! I do hope things will change for the better.
Great photos of the huge crowd. It's so nice to see a civilized peaceful demonstration, so rare during these many days of rage.
