The House of Incompetence

aka The Parliament aka São Bento Palace, Lisbon

IT HAPPENED!
(Following Greece and Ireland) Portugal calls for EU financial bail-out.
PM said yesterday the country was "at too much risk that it shouldn't be exposed to". What he, the greatest liar of all, 'forgot' to say was he has doubled Portugal's external debt in six years!
Rescue loans could amount to as much as 80bn euros ($115bn), meaning even more austerity measures are on their way!
So, arrogant, incompetent, liar, greedy (some even corrupt) politicians, THANK YOU!!!
The government has resigned and new elections will take place on June 5th.

I remember running up these steps for a quick photo.

Politicians around the world seem unable to keep government expenditures in line with revenues.

I'm really sorry to hear this news. I hope the austerity measures won't affect you too much. :(

It's a lovely building at least!

Sigh - I hate politics!

Magnificent building though.

Sorry to hear this. I got an omen of things to come a few months ago when I broke a lens hood of my camera while taking a photo at the bottom of these stairs...

This also unfortunately increases the support of anti-European and populist True Finns party in our elections next week.

It looks a lot like our very own house of incompetence in Washington DC.

Politic everywhere these days are disgusting and I do so relate to what you've written! We, too, have a House of Incompetence in the first degree! It is a gorgeous building though and a stunning capture as always, JM! Take care!

We also have one here in Athens...May be the masters of the kind live here as well...
I hope that in Portugal things won't get as bad as they are for us...

That sounds all too familiar! Lovely photo, even though.

An oft-repeated story... and no-one is prepared to take responsibility for having caused the mess. At least we can get rid of our governments but our new lot doesn't seem any better!

Well spotted that Titus Salt's monument is like the Albert Memorial - they say it was designed to mimic it.

We have a "house of incompetence" right here in Tallahassee--it's called the Florida Legislature.

It's horrible what's going on, but still, the building is terrific!

Don't get me started JM.

Your photo is beautiful with that curve and the steps. Wonderful evening angle.

Beautiful picture and the election on the way is a good news for the country.

Gee, sounds just like the US under G.W. Bush, who left us in a similar mess. And you know what the Repugs are trying to do now!

Poor people everywhere suffer and the rich get richer!

I agree with you, but it is rare that this is the fault of a single person. Usually it is a whole country (like us here) that spends and enjoys public money, living well beyond his means. The incmpetence is still there and the title is perfect, I think there are many of thece Houses of Incompetence around the the world today.

Well at least you have the chance to vote.

So this is like Britain's Houses of Parliament (Incompetences lol), I went to Lisbon two years ago on a University drawing trip. We didn't see this building, but I did see the elephant man. OMG the custard tarts/cakes in Lisbon, soo good and soo cheap

Groan, sounds horrible. I so dislike where we (the collective we who are not in control) are financially right now.

Your righteous indignation is so justified, JM. I wish people like you were in charge of the country.
