Decay (XXX)

Henrique Sommer House (19th century) at Cascais
The sign says this will be the Local History Center. When I saw it for the first time I thought restoration works were about to start. Several years are gone now...

I hope they get to it before it is too late to save.

The longer they wait, the harder (and more costly) it will be!

It is so sad.

This could be very elegant. Buildings like this are worth saving. Maybe a benefactor will see your post and decide to leave a lasting legacy.

Things get put on hold, just as they do here. I think this building would be elegant indeed, with some loving care.

Unfortunately, I think the good things, the positive things are getting put on hold everywhere these days! There are lots of things and places that could surely use some loving care! Hope your week is going well, JM!

I hope they will find or get the money soon.
Looks like it could be very very nice!

I hope it really is transformed but I imagine cash is scarce during this recession.

Por acaso é uma pena estar ao abandono

I love abandoned old buildings - I'd be so tempted to sneak inside and explore with my camera! I hope they do something with it before it is completely gone, though.

VioletSky said...

That is a shame. The building will only become more derelict and no one will take responsibility for that.

First of all - yes, those are the same geese!

Secondly, number XXX! Lots of decay! Decay makes for very good photos. The sign is typical of the optimistic hopes of bureaucrats with their heads stuck in drawers in bureaus!

It sure looks like it has "good bones". Hope it gets done!

the sign does look promising... but then promises can be broken.

What a beauty she must have been when she was new and fresh!

It could still be a lovely building with some restoration work!

I guess they must have run out of money.

Wow, JM, this could be a star if it were restored. I sure hope that it is saved before it becomes too late.

That could be so beautiful. Love the balcony.

Jim said...

It deserves to be restored. A fine piece of architecture.

At least it's not going to be torn down. But I do hope not too many years pass again before they begin restoring it.

Some abandoned buildings have their particular charm, but I agree, something shold be done here!

Decay is so grand in your country.

This building has such beautiful lines. I,too, hope the work to restore it will commence soon.

Uma pena que o patrimônio histórico se deteriore.

We have some spots where they were going to build houses here, cleared the land away :( then the deal never went through.
