Decay (XXXIII)

Pombal Palace (17th century), Lisbon
Apart from this ceiling and one room that have been recently restored, the whole building needs urgent repair.
The palace is being used by 'Carpe Diem - Art and Research' for exhibitions and other events. I went there to attend a singing performance but unfortunatelly my camera ran out of battery - you know the feeling?! - so I'll have to come back because photography opportunities are endless.

The art on the wall seems at odds with the ceiling.

Perhaps if they get enough people in there for art exhibitions or performances, they will draw support to fix the decay.

I both love and hate your decay photos. :-) I love them because they are superb photos and I hate them because I hate to see disrepair like this in gorgeous places...

looking past the decay, it's stunning. I could fill a couple of flash cards here.

Such a gorgeous building! I hope restoration comes soon. I'd hate to see anything happen to that lovely ceiling in the top photo.

I am always amazed at the work in a ceiling like that one! Love the perspective.

I carry so many spare batteries that they usually question me at the airports, but sometimes it gets close and always when things get interesting. I hope you will be back here soon, this is a very interesting building!

Yikes! I can hardly imagine this building being used for anything! Performance art, maybe.

How about Performance Restorers?

We all want you to be able to show us some photos of restoration because it's obvious that we hate to see these beautiful and historic buildings succumb to the ravages of time. I too hope that funds will be available, but it's a tough economic time, esp. for fine arts. Good luck!

What a beautiful ceiling fresco. It looks like wedgwood china. If they would not seize the day in restoring it, this building not be here long enough to enjoy. Thanks for showing this great photos!

The ceiling is wonderful; I hope the rest of the building is restored, as well. It is a shame to let beautiful objects decay, if there is a way to prevent it.

I think this is going to be a very sad series of photographs.

Your decay series always leave me a bit wistful for the original state of a glorious place such as this or one of your more everyday places which has fallen into ruin and decay. This ceiling is amazing!
