It's hard to imagine that this place was here at the time of Martin Luther! Talk about living history. And it is truly a gorgeous building. But, again, your photos are so good and they show it off so well.
"Sao" means "saint" in English. A rogue is a rather nasty character in our language. Was there a St. Rogue? I guess I'll have to spend some time with my ol' friend, Google.

The site of the church was where victims of the plague were buried...St. Roch was considered the Holy Protector from the Plague.

Rococo with a capital R. I suppose these churches were designed to inspire awe in the illiterate but they still make a strong impression today.
