Decay (XXXVII)

Pombal Palace (17th century), Lisbon
Notice the beautiful frescoes under the brown ink layer on the walls. This room is being used for video installations by the 'Carpe Diem - Art and Research' project.

For some reason this one reminds me of old pubs ... musty and not really nice.

Clearly she was a magnificent place/palace in her prime! I hope they can restore her to her previous glory!

Wow! I can imagine the former glory of this place. Glad it's being used again. Maybe it will get a facelift, although there is something nice about this state of decay.

That sounds interesting JM, I guess at least it's being used, can imagine that it would have been quite lovely in it's heyday, were you able to see any images of how it looked before?

It gives one hope to see it used for a project... with luck (and a lot of money) it will be restored. I do appreciate your "decay" posts, JM.

Good to hear this place is being used. Hopefully some restoration with follow. That ceiling is gorgeous.
No serious damage from the dust storm at my house. Just a few things knocked around on the patio. I wish I had seen it coming. I would have grabbed a photo!

I'm a fan of decay...looks like this decay is headed for restoration. And that ceiling!! Each time I'm painting over the ugly wood trim framing at my house with white, I wonder who will exclaim "can you believe they painted over this gorgeous trim?" years from now.

Oh, yes, what a fantastic place it must have been! I do hope that it gets restored, but it's good that it's being used now and maybe that will promote some restoration. Hope your week is going well, JM!

Looks far to beautiful to lose.
I hope funds are available to restore it to it's former glory...
Does Portugal have anything like our National Trust in the UK.

Hopefully it will be restored at some point!

So it has a shabby chic look to it but still, it would be better restored for future generations to enjoy but I imagine budgets are pretty low...

I hope something will be done about this...

At least they have a good starting point for restoration. Much in decent shape and many hints of what was there before.

Thanks for visiting HDP today and your kind words, as well as for your frequent visits. I enjoy your blog because you are an excellent photographer and your world is completely different from mine.

The decay in your city is so artistic.

So what is it about decay that attracts us both to it?! :) Maybe the layers of history peeking through? The stories that the walls could tell from generations past? Good photographic opportunities? etc...probably all of them!

They covered up those frescoes?? Oi

It's all been said. What a wonder.
