Bairro Alto, a neighbourhood in Lisbon, celebrated its 498th anniversary a week ago. Several events took place there and I believe this (remaining?) poster had something to do with one of them - a street installation or something of the kind.
What a great shot, JM! These days one would wonder just how much was "picture" and how much was real!! You've caught them both! Love the cobblestone street!
Onya Clytie. I saw the irony of that real-life camera, too. Well cropped, Jose. See all that detritus in the opening? Is that where a homeless person lives, or is it part of the display? Or is it just rubbish that someone could not be bothered actually putting in the green bim?
At first I thought it was a reflection. Relieved to see it is not. Thanks to Clytie I finally noticed the real camera. Then I wondered about the garbage in the doorway. Your photo gives us a lot to think about.
Probably most cities in the U.S. were given money to fight "terrorism" by the Dept. of Homeland Security. In numerous cases, those funds were used to purchase cameras with which to spy on regular citizens. In other cases the money was used by police departments to militarize their forces (which is a no-no here!)...
Jose, I have recently commenced a meme about cemeteries, and I would be overjoyed if you were to consider contributing to it. I am intending to post each Tuesday (Sydney time) and to monitor and respond up until the following Friday. I know you participate in memes, and think this one may be one for which you have lots of appropriate images. I have linked to it via the side-bar of Sydney Eye, but provide the link here too to make it easier. I lood forward to hearing from you.

I like your image!
Strong and unique image!
"Big Brother" must be busy!
This looks like cameras that are used to photograph people and cars on the streets.
en effet , ce poster trouve bien sa place sur cette porte
Mysteries are fun to try to solve. This looks like surveillance of some kind.
Such a cool pic!
You can't get away with much mischief in this neighborhood!
Good thing it's a poster and not a reflection! Neat archway above the door!
I love the cobblestone sidewalks and streets of old Europe!
This really is a wonderful picture - I was so caught up in looking at the poster that I almost didn't see the real life camera off to the side!

These cameras are everywhere now. Paris just added 200 with a goal of over 1000 I believe...
It's an interesting poster. Either the photo on the poster was doctored or somewhere there is truly "Big Brother" type of surveillance going on.
Can you say, 'I've got my 'eye' on you!' Great capture!
Wonderful to see..
Ah what 498 years of civilisation can lead to! Mind you we've installed cameras at our home since the break in.

@Julie: I truly think it's just rubbish!...
Very cool indeed.

Nicely composed JM, cameras are necessary these days, sad to say.
A funny contrast with the things below. We have many of these, but they usually work like everything works here: not so well...

1984 is here. Just about 27 years late
And it ain't gonna get better!
As some have said, the terrorists have won.

Taphophile Tragics
You're too funny, JM... although the cameras are not. :-)
