Decay (LI) - VHILS

Alcântara, Lisbon

VHILS is the tag name of Portuguese street artist Alexandre Farto. His carving works can be seen in several cities in Europe and the Americas. I've previously posted one in London on my travel blog. By the way, the tagging on the wall has nothing to do with VHILS' work.

The face on the side of this building is beautifully done to work with the decay.

I love the way they've worked the face into the pattern of the decay JM, I think the graffiti is a distraction though! Fantastic find .

I agree with Perth, I, too, love the way the face has been worked into the pattern. But, of course, the graffiti is certainly a distraction. And, yes, you do find the great ones, JM! Have a great week!

Not for a minute did I think that the tagging was part of Farto's work! Graffiti is ALWAYS a distraction!!

Muito interessante a forma de expressão, e o teu olhar, onde nada escapa.

How clever of him to carve away the plaster to make this mural portrait. One wonders what the window to his mind would reveal. I love this series of yours. Although it's sad too to see the decay of so many beautiful buildings.

I, too, love the creative mind that has led to this method of street art. And this particular portrait is most elegant.

Unlike the others, I find this example of tagging to be elegant too, and to have paid a certain amount of respect to VHILS' work. Maybe just a little lower with the Right Hand tag would have been more respectful. Now to go over and look at the Bernie Made-Off portrait. Did you know that Carolyn from Oakland has just started a Monday Mural meme. This would be ideal as a contribution, Jose. Opens 8pm Sunday Pacific Time (-8 GMT).

Extraordinaire et fascinant ...

Mr. Farto is a very creative person...who would think of that and then be able to pull it off? The tagging certainly diminishes the effect, though!

The carved portrait is excellent, but it is jarring and disappointing to see the lack of respect that the taggers have by defacing it.

Now this one I like! In fact I love it.

I think the carving is extraordinary!

I am also very fond of tagging or as we call it, graffiti. I think it's an art form able to stand on it's own.

Combined, you have captured a special treat for my eyes!

I'm in love! That's by far the best modern art piece I've seen in I don't know how long.

That is the most unique street art I've seen....love it. It's like sculpture and drawing combined. Wow.

Thanks for linking to Monday Mural. I'm honored.

A fascinating mural style! Almost as if the artist predicted how weathering could enhance his work! Really beautiful!

This is wonderful. A very special take on decay.

He is good, but the idea of somebody around carving facades is not reassuring...
