Guimarães, the birth place of Portugal (12th century) as we know it, UNESCO World Heritage city and 2012 European Capital of Culture (312 kms from Lisbon)
I see you went on a very fascinating trip! It is exciting to see the birth place of Portugal. There appear to be some very old structures there that have stood the test of time - more or less!
Familiar yet unfamiliar, I have seen some of these architecture in Malacca where the city was once occupied by Portugal in the 17th or 18th century ! The buildings seem familiar a little !
What a fantastic place, JM! Love the arches! Such a lovely historic city and coming from such a young country, I'm always amazed at places like this! Haven't been to Portugal in many years, but I did love the time I spent there!

I'm glad this is a heritage site. It looks quite beautiful. It's good to know it will be preserved.
