Such tile work! How old is this, JM?

Always something new about this wonderful palace...

@Cathy: Actually, this is not very old, the construction took place between 1842–1854, transforming the remains of a former monastery destroyed by the 1755 Great Earthquake into a summer residence for the royal family.

JM that's funny! Not very old you say...I'm almost 100% certain that we don't have even one building in Perth that is 258 years old!!

We loved the Pena Palace during our one visit.

It is old. Julie has a series of photos coming up on her Scottsdale Daily Photo site about the "Old Adobe Mission," which is one of the oldest buildings in town. It was built in the 1930's.

As soon as I saw this photo, I asked if it was Sintra. Every photo you have shown from Sintra has illustrated gorgeous and frequently exotic architecture.

This is wonderful, JM! Was the monastery a Christian one? This looks like a Russian onion dome, or perhaps like a mosque. Great shot!

Oriental inspiration but the colours are local ... judging by from what I have seen in your other photos.
