The construction of the Lisbon Cathedral dates back to 1150. However, many transformations took place over the centuries and such is the case of this altar section.
It never ceases to amaze me how the people way back, managed to build such beautiful buildings without the equipment that we have today. Have a good day Diane
This is gorgeous! I can see why people enjoyed church in the old days. If you didn't like the sermon, you could just feast your eyes on all that beauty. :)
This place reeks of the past, of time much different than our own, of incense and hushed voices, and chorales and priestly meditations, and petitions by the faithful kneeling, punishing their knees on the stone. It is beautiful in an eerie sort of way.

What a truly gorgeous place. The wrought iron chandeliers, the ornamented ceiling with frescoes, I could stare at it for hours.
