Neo-Manueline Style

The Rossio Train Station (1886) in Lisbon is a Romantic recreation of the exuberant Manueline style, typical of early 16th century Portugal.
This is where you take the train if you want to visit Sintra.

I would never have picked it as a railway station.

Now this is the way to build a train station or any other building, actually. It's gorgeous. The detail around the entrances and windows and across the top is superb.

And I would love to visit Sintra from what I've seen of the place...looks paradisiacal.

Romantic is definitely a word I'd use to describe this building JM, it's all the feminine flourishes that make it a delight.

Love the portals... I must admit I've never seen that style before. It does however remind me of The Lord Of The Rings hahah. This building is another reason for visiting Lisbon! :-)

Há poucos dias postei sobre o Real Gabinete Português de Leitura, no Rio de Janeiro que possui este estilo manuelino, inspirado no Mosteiro dos Jerônimos.

Gosto muito.
