OMG. You're so lucky to see these up close and personal and your photos are gorgeous! Did you get a chance to go on board any of them? Portugal, as I recall, is one of the world's leaders in Tall Ships!
Re your comment on Ocala DP: I didn't realize that you had so much of the same problem. I guess corrupt bankers and mortgage brokers are international.
Oh, how fantastic, JM! Such grand and beautiful boats and how wonderful to watch! We do have a Wooden Boat Festival in Port Townsend, WA in the summer and it is a great event, but not as great as this! Thanks for sharing.
@Lowell: Yes, you can visit most of them, the bigger ones. The problem is that standing in long lines under a very hot sun waiting to go in is not my cup of tea! :-) Actually, at least three of these ships are Portuguese. The top shot shows one of them, the Sagres.
Like Jack said, we had tall ships in New London, CT a couple of weeks ago. They barred all vehicle traffic in town, so I didn't go see them. The finest and largest ship was from Brazil.
Imagino que deve ter sido glorioso tantas Caravelas ao mar, como na época dos Grandes Descobrimentos. Gostava de ter estado aí ter visto tudo isto de perto. Memorável.

It must be glorious when the set sail. I have only ever seen a fleet of tall ships at our bicentennial celebrations in 1988.
A feast indeed. What could be more beautiful and exciting!
what a beauty!!!!
I'll say. Lucky you and your camera.
Ah, the wonder and romance of sailing into the sunset on one of these tall ships. Great portraits of them.

I absolutely envy you!
This must be just amazing to watch! These ships are simply gorgeous.
They are so grand and colorful! I think the intricate rigging is amazing.

They are beauties, JM. Tall ships visited New London, Connecticut, about two weeks ago, but I didn't manage to get down there.

How fun it would be to sail on one of those.
