A large-scale mobilisation across Europe is taking place today to alert the European leaders that the time for a change in course has already come. The day will take various forms in more than 20 countries: from simultaneous strikes through demonstrations to open forums and political and media action.
In Portugal and Spain a 24 hour general strike is in progress, the first Iberian strike in History.

Austerity seems to be the only word European leaders know, especially Merkel, the German beauty !
I feel bad for the people in these countries. Life is going to be hard for some time to come.
Eventually a solution will be found, I just hope it's a workable solution for everyone.
Sometimes we must make a lot of noise to be heard and to achieve change. Best wishes to all those involved!
I do hope a solution is reached and one that will benefit the people of the country -- not necessarily the "austerity loving" leaders of any of the countries!!

Good sign! I've seen a piece circulating on Facebook that shows the lifetime salaries that the US president, house and senate leaders and members are guaranteed on retirement for life. The lowest, house and senate members, is US $174,000 per year. An average US soldier in Afghanistan is $38,000 and average for seniors on Social Security is $12,000 US. I suspect the scale is similar in Europe. Austerity? For everyone but the leaders.

The cleverness of protest signs never ceases to amaze me. We just had our elections and you'd think we could move on from the pettiness (the people have spoken), but the other side just won't give up and are digging in their heals all the more. I'm a firm believer in the notion that there is plenty to go around for everyone if we could all be more sensible and sensitive...
I understand the anger and frustration. Our family politics are leftish. But still, who is to pay the bill? Still, the humor is wicked.

Didn't see any demonstrations in my neck of the woods. Difficult times for a lot of people in Europe these days.
It's hard to know where all this will end up. Mean whwile, it's good to see that someone still has a sense of humor.
