@Dina: A large part of the downtown park and the Oeiras Palace gardens were destroyed as well as about 50 parked cars nearby. Many houses were flooded.
That is indeed a lot of wash up!! We've had a lot of flooding in parts of Washington this year and we've seen lots of sights like this. Fortunately, the area where I live was spared the mess! Hope your weekend is off to a great -- dry! start!!

Whoa! Evidently the drains and canals aren't working as well as they should, although if it rained hard all day you did get a biblical inundation!
What a mess. I like the photo, though, and the bridge and the stone and the water...
Hope you made it through unscathed!
Wow, hope no one got caught up in it all. The weather is very odd at present, everywhere so it seems. Diane
No getting around it. Water runs its course. I goes wherever it wants, whenever it wants.
Wow. That is a good way to prove your flooding. Even some mud on the bench.
Was there a lot of damage?

I hope everything is better now, I like the picture and the bench...
It sounds like there was quite a lot of damage from the deluge. I hate to hear when gardens are destroyed.
quiet the wash up!
What a mess - hope all is getting back to normal again now...

Reminds me of the horrible floods in Quimper about 10 years ago. That's sad...
So sorry to hear about this. Your photo tells the story, though not the scale. It sounds like too many people suffered losses.
Wow - Looks like a disaster! How awful.
It must have really rained a lot. We had lots of rain here in Rome too recently and the Tiber was flooded but not this bad. I am a new follower.
Yikes! That was quite deep!
It is plain the drain can't cope with a lot of rain.
That must have been some flood.
The figure shows how powerful the rain had. Very life-like image. Love it.
having suffered and still recovering from our own recent floods, our sympathies are with you all.
I do hope the people were not too badly affected.
Scary stuff JM, even scarier is that there's nothing to be done when mother nature lets loose!
Ick! Maybe this will create some jobs for clean-up crews?
Wow - one photo says it all. Amazing
