Gibalta Lighthouse

Lisbon-Oeiras-Cascais railroad at Cruz Quebrada

A tragedy took place here in 1952: during a big storm the original building collapsed smashing the back carriage of a passing train.

By the way, we haven't had a proper sunshine day in 23 days, but here it is. Finally!

I am glad you posted the second photo. My reaction to the first photo was that one can see the lighthouse, but where is the coast. Sorry to learn about the strange train accident.

That is a very colorful lighthouse. Glad you have sunshine. We are working on our third day of rain and clouds.

Great lighthouse! What a nightmare that storm must have been!! We haven't gone 23 days without sun -- but close, so I do empathize!! Glad you have some at last and I hope it stays around for a while!!

Very strategically well-placed lighthouse in your first photo. I wondered where the sea was.

Nice building - sad story! Glad you have sun - we have had snow & now rain & very grey.

23 days! Hmmmpf! More like months here, give or take a day or two. Yes, that must have been a tragedy indeed...

Glad the sun is back. Hadn't heard of that tragedy with the train.

It may have been gray skies for a long while, but Lisbon is still one of the warmest cities in Europe this winter. Nevertheless, being someone who craves the sun, I empathize with you. The lighthouse is so interesting. I'm used to seeing them isolated out on promontories not near rail lines and apartment buildings.

No light needed on a sunny, bright day like this!

That is a nice tall lighthouse. So sad about the train. That is something that will stay in the memory forever. I like the beautiful coastline.

Não conheci este farol. Faltou-me este, e por certo uns tantos outros.

What a sad story, but a lovely lighthouse enjoying the sun.

23 days? Yikes!

It's sunny and 88 degrees (F) here today. But very windy.

A very dramatic lighthouse and the juxtaposition between the stationary lighthouse and the moving train in extraordinary!

Gosh that must have been quite a storm to bring the lighthouse down JM, scary stuff.. but how fab to see such a vibrant blue sky..enjoy it while it lasts!
