Daylight Saving Time – DST

Carcavelos Beach

The conception of DST was mainly credited to an English builder, William Willett in 1905, when he presented the idea to advance the clock during the summer months. His proposal was published two years later and introduced to the House of Commons in February 1908. The first Daylight Saving Bill was examined by a select committee but was never made into a law. It was not until World War I, in 1916, that DST was adopted and implemented by several countries in Europe who initially rejected the idea. (timeanddate.com)

I hate and detest DST. It's great for office workers who want to go surfing after work but for farmers and schoolchildren it is a blight.
I like your statement with the red chairs.

I just read that Mark Twain first came up with the idea of DST. Information overload, I guess!

I did not know the origin of DST. In Arizona, we do not go on DST, except for the Navajo Nation in the northeastern part of the state.

That means that half of the year Arizona is two hours behind the East Coast and half of the year it is three hours behind (the same as California). This is confusing for the rest of the country, which confuses people elsewhere at times.

We don't go on daylight savings time here in Arizona but we do have to be wary because the rest of the country does. So, right now there is a three hour difference between us the the east coast while we are on the exact same time as the west coast. The tricky part is in our same time zone. We are 1 hour different than the adjacent states to the north and east of us.

Whatever time frame is used, lets just get on with spring/summer/warmth and blue skies!! Have a great week, JM

I would actually much prefer staying at winter time (natural time from Greenwich) all year long... Lovely shot! Happy Easter!

I still reject the idea, no way I will ever like it!

We changed time a couple of weeks ago and I must say I enjoy the bright evenings!

Looks like you'll get to enjoy the beach for a little longer in the summer what with DST. The history is most interesting. I was always told that our Congress adopted it as a way to help the farmers, giving them more time to work the fields during the summer evenings.

Perfect beach shot! I love the colors!

Someone once said DST is like pulling a blanket up higher on your bed and then believing you've got a longer blanket.

Not a fan of DST. I could sit in one of those chairs right now and fall asleep :).

We don't have daytime saving in Western Australia, unlike the other states of Australia. I am in South Australia at the moment and they will change their clocks next Sunday 7th.

Gosh I didn't realise DLS had been around for so long JM. Pert is one of the only states in Australia not to have it.

I am used to it and rather enjoy the longer evenings and the chickens don't seem to mid either. MB
