Carcavelos Beach
The most extreme tidal range occurs when the gravitational forces of both the Sun and Moon are in phase. However, it's just two days left to the March Equinox and the ocean still looks strangely calm this year (September Equinox here). The area shown in the photo usually is, if not submerged, at least all wet.
This is my contribution to the City Daily Photo mid-March theme: Festival of the Equinox

Hmmm...that is strange. I love those little flowers in the foreground of your photo.
just beautiful, jm!
What a beautiful capture of a lovely place! Love the flowers that you included! A whisper of spring and I am SO ready!! Hope your week is going well, JM!
What a super shot. Thanks for showing me your surf. My granddaughter is there on a surfing holiday. Looks good!
The flowers make me think that spring may arrive yet!
we call these ice plant here, how about there?
@Photo Cache: It is Ice Plant but we call it 'Chorão'. :-)
Lovely photo! So beautiful place and flowers are gorgeous!
It seems as though the weather is doing unusual things all around the planet, Jose. The comparison between the March and the September equinox shown in both posts is just massive.
I do not think we have Ice Plant here in Australia but what you show is very similar to our sunloving Gazania.
Thank you for contributing to the Festival of the Equinox. I appreciate your support very much.
Very pretty! Those extreme tides always seem just a little off until you realize what you're looking at.
We're noticing early signs of spring here. Not a moment too soon!
A superb picture also beyond its meaning...
Sometimes your photos just take my breath away...like this one. The sea, that wonderful sea, is almost mythical in its primordial beauty. And the rocks contrast so well with those stunning flowers (which I don't think I've ever seen before)!
Now, I haven't even mentioned the quality of composition evidenced here...but everything is perfect - the 2/3rds rule is evident and the subject matter is upfront and it soothes the eyes!
Love your foreground it is beautiful. Have a good week Diane
Those are amazing flowers.
How beautiful! And it's the same way here in southern California, oddly calm with hardly any waves. Not good for the surfing community, but any day at the beach is a great day to me no matter what the weather or tides...
Bravo. A fabulous photograph with the flora growing in the foreground as a contrast to the flat sea. Great post for the festival of the equinox.
Great -- you managed an equinox post from your favourite beach. The plants in the foreground give a very different view (yet again).
Pretty flowers at the beach!

Marvellous post for the equinox theme JM..could this be the 'calm before the storm'? Your perspective here couldn't possibly be any more perfect.
Love the photo, the beauty of the flowers, the texture of the ground and the 'movement' of the water, just beautiful!
Que composiçao belissima! Gostinho de Primavera!
