Oi, this is especially sad. Someone must have been really angry or really disappointed.

What a shame!

I always wonder if these vandals ever get interrupted doing their bad deeds. Is anybody ever getting caught?

To add to Dina's comment: or merely completely stupid.

Anger, disappointment, stupidity can't justify anything like this...

Such beautiful tile and such a shame to see this damage.

You'd think they would be afraid of lightning striking them as they did this.

I do hate to see so much of this kind of vandalism and there there seems to be more and more of it happening! Sad!

I keep hoping that human beings would evolve emotionally and mentally and spiritually, but that doesn't happen. Sometimes I think we regressing instead of progressing.

The haters are once again coming to the fore, esp. in the U.S.

Unfortunately, it exists everywhere... hope it can be repaired and renovated...

Sintra es uno de los más bellos lugares de Portugal. Es una pena que cualquier clase de arte pueda ser objeto de actos vandálicos.

Were the missing bits hammered out, like the way Iconoclasts destroyed the faces of earlier Christian images? It is indeed cultural vandalism, whether it happen in Portugal or Afghanistan.

Madness! But there is something about this piece that is still beautiful. Imagination can fill in the missing tiles.

So terrible, I always wonder "WHY" - somehow I feel even the culprit isn't always so sure, sadly.

It must be horrible to walk around with so much negativity inside, such a shame JM, you can still see how lovely it was originally.
