Vietnamese Display

Orient Museum, Lisbon

Housed in a former warehouse, Lisbon's Orient Museum is dedicated to Asian art with a special emphasis on the Portuguese presence in the East, recalling the days when Portugal was the world's mercantile power dominating the spice routes.

I remember those days when Portugal was the world's mercantile power ... well, I don't personally remember them, but I did read about them! :)

This is another of your truly wonderful photographs...the colors are fantastic and you've been able to shoot in a very dark room without blowing out the whites! Great job!

Did you use a flash. It's almost like you used another light source.

@Lowell: This shot was taken through a glass.

This display is beautiful, and beautifully captured!:) I've known so many people with Portuguese surnames from Macau and Sri Lanka (also in my hometown of Honolulu, but that is another route:), a good reminder indeed.

I have recently read a book about the ways that the West and East developed differently, and there is a lot of discussion about the Portuguese voyages to Asia. Good timing! (And, a fine image of a good subject.)
