Definitely a regal staircase. The photograph is filled with patterns: floor tile, staircase steps, railings on balcony and the staircase. All very attractive.

Ah, those were the days . . . Grandees, grand toilettes, grand intrigues and back stabbing. The good old days.
What has changed since then? Politicians have mansions while pensioners starve, everyone is out for their own aggrandisement.
At least the palaces show pomp and cicumstance with style!

Ah...home, sweet home! :) All I can say is "Yikes!" What a place. Love those lights. And that staircase would make a great movie set! This is, I assume, some kind of museum now.
