Church Of São Nicolau

Downtown Lisbon

The original building dated back to the early 13th century but it was destroyed after the 1755 Great Earthquake and rebuilt in the 1770s.

I wonder what the original building looked like. This one is beautiful.

There is a unusual simplicity in this one.

looks like a glass room in the upper left of the building , wonder if that is a green house or something

Don't look that much like a church from this view.

That earthquake in 1755 must have been a monster!! It does seem to have destroyed so many wonderful places! I'm glad that so many of them were rebuilt! Magnificent church and your composition is terrific as always! Hope you've had a great weekend, JM!

A grand and beautiful structure...looks solid now! I noted the glass section up on the left, too, and wondered if it was some kind or nursery or greenhouse.

This is beautiful, sorry for the lack of visits we have been very busy trying to get the house back ship shape. Not quite there but nearly! Have a good week, Diane

So old!! And it looks like it has some nice tile-work.

Interesting architecture. It refuses to be grandiose and inspiring, settling for restrained dignity. I'd like to see what's inside that might offset the exterior.
