The old fashioned beach
*
For those who wondered how the calm see of Nazaré (it's summer now!) can produce such big waves (previous post), here's a vintage poster - which was actually on display at an exhibition at the MoMA, New York - showing how everything changes in winter:

Wow great images. I've never seen a beach like this!!
Just a few tents then JM :) imagine trying to find your way back!!
My husband would go crazy among all those people. Are those "tents" often filled??
@Kate: I would go crazy too! :-) I guess they will be filled, at least in August.
Wow, that is a huge amount of beach huts. And, that photo of the waves crashing is really scary. The sea gets much wilder in the winter months.
that's a scary wave!
City has become to the beach ...
Nice to look at, but I would not want to be there.
Hugs
I think that is more tents and people than I could deal with -- a city in itself indeed! And that is a SCARY wave, but how wonderful to be able to see it -- from a distance!!! Terrific captures as always, JM!!
it's beautiful there. i wonder if this gets really crowded.
I already love this place and you are showing it greatly, in all its splendor. That poster is a bit scary, but really impressive!
Interesting, I had no idea about those cabines... beautiful photos, JM!
Love your shots of the tents but too crowded for me! ;-)
That's the beauty of the everchanging ocean... :-)
Oh and those photos...amazing!
Beautiful photos! First I have ever seen a beach like this.
That's an interesting scene. I love the vintage poster.
Those beach huts are fascinating. I don't remember seeing any like that on US beaches.
Great photos! It looks like a beautiful place and the tents make a fascinating shot. But that's more humanity than I'd care to deal with. Perhaps those monster waves are nature's way of saying "Enough already! Go away!"
NIce picture of the tents. How often exactly do the waves crash in like that?!

@Duncan: On winter stormy days, I suppose.
What a colorful beach!
