Here in Australia we call this plant Wattle and there are literally hundreds of different varieties ... it's our national floral emblem.

There are wattle flowers of different varieties in flower pretty much all through the year but mostly at the close of winter and into spring. They grow all along the roadsides and in our forests as well as in gardens. Their flowers are such a cheerful display at the end of winter as you no doubt feel too.
