New Look

Carcavelos Beach

Last winter was the worst ever. The damages on the coastline were unbelievable. Millions of tons of sand have been washed away and "new" rocks can be seen everywhere now. It's not an issue on beaches such as this (more than 1 km long) but it might be a problem for tourism on smaller ones.

Great photo Jose. A lot of moss on those rocks.

That's a lot of sand to lose.

Now there is a little wading pool on the beach, no?

What a beautiful panoramic shot. Looks like a good day to be at the beach! It's too bad about the sand washing away though.

It still looks beautiful!

At least in your photo it does look peaceful and beautiful, Jose, but I am so sorry for all the damage!!!

This is sad and I hope it will be fixed in some way!

It has been a hard winter everywhere!

Beach erosion has become a major problem in many areas. This one still looks beautiful even with the little rocky edges.

I can understand the worries, but I still think it looks fantastic!

Well, my friend, it makes for a wonderful panorama. I'm sure with several millions of dollars the beaches could be restored. The State of Florida spends millions every year dumping sand on beaches where sand washed away from storms and hurricanes!

You did have a rough winter.

Terrific view, though!

Now that's the way to unwind.

I remember your winter photos of the storm damage on the beaches. This scene is quite calm by contrast.

I get the impression that English and German tourists go to Portugal because it's mostly warm and sunny, and there's lots of good, cheap wine. They will find someplace to lay in the sun.

Nature rules, as always, whether we build something or not.

Great Pano, but so sorry to hear about the damage to your beaches.
